Commissioner Mario Cordero's Remarks at the World LNG Fuels Conference in Houston, Texas on January 26, 2012
As you are all aware, there has been significant activity in the maritime community in the environmental arena, including advocating for the use and development of alternative fuels. The Federal Maritime Commission is an independent regulatory agency responsible for regulating ocean borne transportation in the foreign commerce of the United States. My remarks today are my personal views and do not necessarily represent the views of the FMC. My past association on environmental policy issues also stems from my previous experience as a Commissioner at the Port of Long Beach, by all accounts a global leader not only in containerization, but a leader as a Green Port.

Comments of Federal Maritime Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye at the American Metal Market Moving Metals Conference
The Shipping Act of 1984 exempts common carriers from the tariff publication requirements and the service contract filing requirements of the Act when they carry recycled metal scrap. However, scrap metal shippers are protected by the Shipping Act’s prohibitions contained in chapter 411 of title 46, United States Code.

Here in California, there has been significant activity in the area of environmental reform, to include advocating use and development of alternative fuels. My association on this policy issue stems from my past experience as a Commissioner at the Port of Long Beach, by all accounts a global leader not only in containerization, but a leader as a Green Port.
