Ralph J. and Carol M. Cicerone Endowment
for NAS Missions

Announced at the NAS Annual Meeting, the Ralph J. and Carol M. Cicerone Endowment Fund will strengthen the Academy and provide future NAS presidents with unrestricted resources to flexibly respond to immediate and long-term issues.

The Endowment will:

Allow NAS to provide timely leadership on emerging, cutting-edge issues in science through new programs and policy studies.
"Help underpin the Academy’s roles: to validate scientific excellence; enhance the vitality of the scientific enterprise; guide public policy with science; and communicate the nature, values, and judgments of science to government and the public.“—Ralph Cicerone 

Double the Impact of Your Gift

The overall fundraising goal is $20 million. To help us reach this goal, the Simons Foundation has graciously issued a $10 million challenge gift to inspire and encourage others to invest in the future of science in America.

 NAE Global Grand Challenges Summit

The 3rd Global Grand Challenges Summit (GGCS) event aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and the public to address the most important challenges and opportunities facing humanity such as the 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering. It will focus on six key theme areas: Sustainability, Health, Security, Joy of Living, Education, and Public Engagement. The next GGCS occurs July, 2017, in Washington, DC.

Beginning in 2017, the next US administration will face unprecedented challenges — and extraordinary opportunities — as it charts the next steps for health reform in the United States. The NAM Vital Directions series will seek to identify areas of opportunity and explore national policies that are immediately actionable and hold promise for improving care quality, increasing access, and lowering costs, among other goals.
