To use this system, you must first register to set up your login name and password. Once registered, you will need to login to access all online services. Online services include: filing a new application for unemployment benefits, reopening an existing claim, filing for weekly continued claims against your claim, access to correspondence, viewing information about your claim, etc.

WHAT TO EXPECT - Filing a new claim for benefits
The application for unemployment benefits takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Your application is not completed or accepted unless you receive a Confirmation Number. If you are disconnected or choose to leave the application before completion, you may log back on during the calendar week to resume completion of your application. If you do not certify and receive a confirmation number by Saturday at 11:59 pm, the incomplete application will be deleted.

While entering information and navigating through the application, DO NOT USE YOUR WEB BROWSER BUTTONS, ESPECIALLY THE BACK BUTTON. THIS MAY CAUSE YOUR SESSION TO BE TERMINATED. Once you have provided all the information sought, you will have the opportunity to review the information you have entered and to return to any page to make corrections at that time.

IMPORTANT NOTE
It is important to provide accurate information and to answer each question on your application truthfully. The law provides penalties for false statements made to obtain or increase benefits.

WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR CLAIM

Your claim for benefits becomes effective the calendar week in which you complete the application. The only exception is if you work less than full-time and file your application within 3 days of your last day of work.

If you have worked full time during a calendar week, do not open your claim during that same week. You must be partially or totally unemployed to file for benefits.

If you receive separation pay such as severance for a period of more than 30 days after your last physical day of employment, you may want to review the detailed information about the potential amount and duration of unemployment benefits, including an opportunity to look at optional scenarios for your personal situation using the link to Amount & Duration of Benefits. This information may guide you as to whether it is to your advantage to open your claim immediately, or to wait and open your claim after your separation pay has been exhausted.

RECEIVING PAYMENT

Your claim will be reviewed for completeness and you may be contacted to provide additional information, either by US mail, email, or by phone. Prompt and complete response to any such request is needed so that your eligibility can be determined and benefits can be issued to you as soon as possible. Your employer may also be contacted.

No payment can be made unless you file timely continued claims. Read and follow the instructions provided on the Claim Instruction Sheet sent to you after completing the application for benefits. Visit the nearest NH Employment Security office or call 1-800-266-2252 for assistance Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 p.m.

Claims are processed in the order that they are received, it may take up to four weeks from the first week claimed to determine eligibility and generate payment.

SYSTEM AVAILABILITY

This system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some specific features may not be available when updates are being made to the system. Updates are primarily performed at night, after normal business hours.

FRAUD PREVENTION

To prevent fraud and detect unreported earnings, NHES matches the data you provide with wage data submitted by all New Hampshire and out-of-state employers. NHES also compares state and national New Hire Reports to unemployment insurance records to ensure claimants who have returned to work full-time are no longer collecting benefits and claimants who are working part-time are reporting their wages accurately. NHES also matches your records with those of other state and federal agencies to confirm you are eligible for benefits.

The information you provide will be verified with the Social Security Administration. If the information you provide does not match your information on file at the Social Security Administration (SSA), the processing of your claim may be delayed and you will be contacted to provide additional information.

If you receive notification that NHES could not verify your information with SSA and you are sure that the SSN, name, and date of birth information you used to complete your application for benefits is correct, you may be required to contact the SSA to resolve any problems with their records.

If you have changed your Social Security Number (SSN), last name, first name, or date of birth, you should update your records and verify any changes with the Social Security Administration to avoid any delays with processing your claim.

To find your local SSA office, call 1-800-772-1213 or go to the SSA web site at www.ssa.gov.
