The ceremony signifies the start of the Navy's largest solar power generation system project in Hawaii.   • The Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Henry J. Kaiser (T-AO 187), delivers a 50-50 blend of advanced biofuels and traditional petroleum-based fuel to the guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) during the Great Green Fleet demonstration portion of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2012. In the background are the guided-missile destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90), left, the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and the guided-missile destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93). Twenty-two nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in the biennial RIMPAC exercise from June 29 to Aug. 3, in and around the Hawaiian Islands. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.   • Sailors EM1 Emmanuel Ladzekpo and EM1 Vannon Alonso change out fluorescent lightbulbs to LEDs on board USS Gettysburg. Since upgrading to LEDs (50%-60% upgraded), Gettysburg has seen a reduced electrical load of about 750 amps--100% upgrade could potentially reduce the ships energy consumption by 1000amps.   • One of the two electromagnetic railgun prototypes on display aboard the joint high speed vessel USS Millinocket (JHSV 3) in port at Naval Base San Diego. The railguns are being displayed in San Diego as part of the Electromagnetic Launch Symposium, which brought together representatives from the U.S. and allied navies, industry and academia to discuss directed energy technologies. Navy Tests 100-percent Advanced Biofuel

The Secretary of the Navy's energy vision came to fruition this month [September] when the EA-18G "Green Growler" completed flight testing of a 100-percent advanced biofuel at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.
