Public Outreach Events
"Permits and Processes: Working in Michigan Waters"
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Detroit District Regulatory Office and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) invite you to attend a symposium designed to enhance the knowledge of contractors, consultants, municipalities, and others who apply for permits on a professional basis. “Permits and Processes: Working in Michigan Waters" will take an in-depth look at both the Corps and MDEQ regulatory programs, permit application and information requirements, and decision making processes. This will be an all-day event comprised of multiple sessions. Throughout the day we will focus on a hypothetical major development project to highlight the various aspects of the Corps and MDEQ permit application and evaluation processes. We invite you to attend the full symposium or individual sessions. Registration is not required and this event is free.
“Permits and Processes: Working in Michigan Waters” will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at The Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC Center) in Muskegon.

“Waterways, Wetlands, and You!”
"Waterways, Wetlands, and You" is the Detroit District’s public outreach event held at various locations in Michigan and Indiana each year. These events include a brief presentation providing an overview of the Corps’ Regulatory Program and offer an opportunity to interact with Corps Regulatory staff. Topics we cover include working in regulated waterways, wetlands, and along shorelines; when a permit is required from the Corps; information on applying for permits; and services that the Corps’ Regulatory Office provides to the public.
Following the presentation, we conduct an application workshop. The workshop guides attendees through the steps of filling out an application and offers the opportunity to sit down with a Regulatory Project Manager to discuss proposed or completed projects. The outreach events will be held at the following locations on the specified dates and times:
Please check back for 2017 dates, times, and locations.
Tailored Outreach Events
We are now offering outreach events upon request in your local area. Corps staff is available to meet with your organization and cover topics such as working in regulated waterways, wetlands, and along shorelines; when a permit is required from the Corps, including specific requirements for projects typical of your area; how to apply for permits; and other services the Corps Regulatory Office provides. These outreach events are a great opportunity for participants to discuss their project with Corps staff. Presentations and workshops are provided by Corps staff at no cost. The events may be held in a venue that you arrange or at a publicly available meeting room. We welcome the opportunity to discuss tailoring a presentation and/or workshop to your organization’s interests as they relate to the Corps Regulatory Program.
If you have questions or would like to schedule an outreach event for your organization, please contact us by e-mail at LRE_Reg_Outreach@usace.army.mil or by phone at (313) 226-1325.
