Healthy People 2020 Midcourse Review

Healthy People 2020, Midcourse Review Healthy People 2020 is the nation’s health promotion and disease prevention initiative, with overarching goals and specific objectives for improving the health of all Americans. Healthy People 2020 objectives cover 42 topic areas and serve as a national benchmark for improving the Nation's health.

The Healthy People 2020 Midcourse Review provides a snapshot of objective progress toward meeting targets halfway through the 10-year initiative, providing a roadmap for the second half of the decade. This 820-page report provides detailed progress and health disparities data, as available, for over 1,200 objectives. Readers can download individual chapters of the report below. Further information about the Healthy People 2020, including access to the most recent data updates, can be found on HealthyPeople.gov.

"It is my hope that the findings presented in the Healthy People 2020 Midcourse Review, both successes and challenges, serve to help guide officials, the public, and individuals in developing policies and programs that improve the health of Americans."

Charles J. Rothwell, Director, National Center for Health Statistics

"The Healthy People 2020 Midcourse Review analyzes the data by different populations—such as racial and ethnic populations, gender, income level, education level, and rural and urban settings—to identify disparities that influence health outcomes. Even when we have met or exceeded our targets, a deeper look at the data can uncover disparities that may be masked by the national average."

Don Wright, M.D., M.P.H. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Director, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
