U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou has an extended reference, research and news service administered by the Information Resource Center(IRC).

The IRC assists both the general public and the Consulate’s high level target audience. We provide free reference and research services to Chinese seeking information about the United States. The subject emphasis is on American politics and government, economics and trade, foreign affairs and regional security, education and culture, as well as global issues such as the environment. The IRC delivers this information in a variety of ways depending on your needs. You may contact us by phone, fax, or email.

We also have audio/visual books, kindles available for use in our Center.

To check out a device or get online access, please speak to the IRC staff member.

eLibraryUSA – An American Digital Library

eLibraryUSA is a virtual online library provided by the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) in the U.S. Department of State. It gives members of Information Resource Centers, American Corners, and other American Spaces around the world access to information that Americans find at their public libraries. This assortment of 30 authoritative and up-to-date databases provides access to information on a broad range of topics including English language learning, science, American history and culture, global issues, health, business, and much more.

Anyone can use eLibraryUSA at the Information Resource Center (IRC). IRC members can request individual accounts which allow them to access eLibraryUSA from home or office. Please contact the IRC at ircgz@state.gov for more information.

The IRC maintains a book collection of over 1,000 volumes focused primarily on American studies. The IRC is constantly adding new titles to its collection.

Electronic journals from the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) offer in-depth information on issues critical to U.S. foreign affairs and on U.S. society and culture. They include authoritative policy statements by senior U.S. government officials, commentary by private sector and academic apecialists, and articles by U.S. citizens, from celebrities to teenagers. IIP publishes five topical editions: Economic Perspectives, U.S. Foreign Policy Agenda, U.S. Society & Values, Global Issues, and Issues of Democracy.

IRC Services:

Research & Reference Service

The IRC provides free research and reference services for Chinese officials, scholars, journalists, researchers, and professionals on various aspects of United States: international relations, especially Sino-U.S. economic and security relations, U.S. society, U.S. culture and history, and global issues. Users are encouraged to contact the IRC in advance to discuss their query with reference staff.

Book Loaning

Book loans to researchers are available upon special request. Please contact the IRC.
Online Catalogue

Orientation

IRC staff can give general or subject-specific orientations on the resources and services of the IRC either to individuals or to groups of researchers and students. Please contact the IRC at ircgz@state.gov to make appointments.

Internet Training

You are welcome to come to the IRC to learn how to use the Internet efficiently and effectively. Our trained staff can show you the best search engines to use and web sites related to your subject interests. Advance appointment required. Please contact the IRC at ircgz@state.gov.

    We are closed on American and Chinese holidays.

    Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon
    from 1pm to 4pm, you don’t need to make an appointment to visit the IRC but showing your ID or passport to our guards at the US Consulate VIP Guest Entrance. Other times, please do make an appointment in 24 hours advance.
