South Shore of Staten Island Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

The South Shore of Staten Island Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study area is located along the south shore of Staten Island in New York City and covers 13 miles of coastline on Staten Island, from Fort Wadsworth to Tottenville, extending along lower New York Bay and Raritan Bay.

The ongoing study is being done in close partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and New York City.

*** September 2016 Update - Pursuant to the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) NEPA Regulations 40 CFR 1506.10 (b) (2), the publication of a Notice of Availability in the Federal Register for the South Shore of Staten Island, New York, Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) initiates a 30-day waiting period for the Federal decision to finalize a Record of Decision (ROD). The ROD on this proposed project/action will be issued no sooner than 30 days after the release of the FEIS.

*** September 2015  - All comments received during the public comment period closed on September 9, 2015 and are being reviewed and assessed.
The next step will be the completion of the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Final South Shore of Staten Island Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Report (currently scheduled for sometime in 2016).

*** August 2015  - A public Information session, formal presentation, and poster board session was held in August 2015 on Staten Island.
