How to Apply

In order to apply for a non-immigrant visa, you have to follow the steps listed below.  

  • Step 1: Select The Visa Type
  • STEP 2: COMPLETE THE DS-160 ONLINE APPLICATION
     

    Fill out the online DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form and print the "Confirmation Page" with a barcode. 

    Note:  If your DS-160 does not provide complete and accurate information, the Embassy will not process the application.  You will be required to update or correct your DS-160 and return to the Embassy at a later time to finish the application process.

  • STEP 3: SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT(S) THROUGH THE APPOINTMENT CENTER AND PAY THE APPLICATION FEE
     

    There are two methods to schedule your appointment(s); you can use the internet appointment system or call to speak to an operator.  There is no fee for either service.

    Internet

    Go to http://ustraveldocs.com/ and follow the directions for making an appointment.


    When you schedule your appointment(s), you will need to:

    Provide the confirmation number from your DS-160 application (from  Step 2)

    Make an initial determination on your eligibility for the Interview Waiver Program (IWP) : http://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/cn-niv-visarenew.asp and http://beijing.usembassy-china.org.cn/diplomatic-official-passport-holders2.html. Or schedule your appointment the Embassy or the Ritan branch office.

    Select the Citic bank branch where you would like your passport and visa delivered (if approved).

    Payment can be only be made with a UnionPay debit card if you pay. You can pay directly through the website, the Call Center, or at a Citic bank ATM. If paying at a Citic bank branch, you can pay with a UnionPay debit card or with cash. when you have your payment confirmation number,  continue immediately to the appointment calendar.  No additional work or payment is required.

    If you prefer to pay in cash, the appointment website will produce a bank deposit slip based on the type of appointment for which you have registered; the deposit slip will indicate how much you must pay.  You must print this bank deposit slip, log off the appointment site, proceed to a local Citic bank branch, present the bank deposit slip, pay the requested amount, obtain an original bank receipt for the transaction, log back into the appointment site, and enter the bank receipt confirmation number into the requested field.  After you have provided the confirmation number, you may proceed to the appointment calendar.

  • STEP 4: APPEAR AT CHOSEN LOCATION FOR INTERVIEW (NOT REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICANTS)
     

    Please arrive no more than 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. You may not enter with food, guns, weapons, or any liquids, including beverages, hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial gels. All electronic equipment is prohibited, This includes cellular telephones, photographic or video cameras, radios and computers.  There are no storage facilities; therefore, if you arrive with any of the items above, you will be turned away and asked to make a new appointment.

    The U.S. Embassy in Ritan branch office is located at the following address:

    It is important to be honest during the interview. Misleading, lying, and/or presenting false or altered documentation may result in a permanent visa ineligibility.

  • STEP 5: APPEAR AT LOCAL CITIC BANK TO PICK UP PASSPORT AND VISA (IF APPROVED)
     

    When making the appointment during Step 3, you selected a local Citic bank branch to pick up your passport and visa, if approved.  To change or review your Citic bank branch location, log into the appointment website or call the appointment center (see step 3). There is no cost for this service, but the change can only be made until 11:59 p.m on the day of your appointment.

    Please note that Embassy Beijing only issues non- immigrant visas.
