On January 1, China’s new Foreign NGO Management Law will take effect. Non-government organizations working around the world, including in China, do critical work. They help people exchange knowledge, skills, and ideas. They help societies drive innovation, they contribute to social stability, and they support the neediest among us. They promote business development and trade, provide education and healthcare services, and bring us together to protect the environment. They strengthen and enrich all parts of our societies.

Joint Summary of Outcomes
On December 7, 2016, in Washington, D.C., Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, together with Chinese State Councilor and Minister of the Ministry of Public Security Guo Shengkun, co-chaired the third U.S.-China High-Level Joint Dialogue on Cybercrime and Related Issues.

National Security Advisor Susan E. Rice met today with State Councilor Guo Shengkun of China to emphasize the importance of fully adhering to the U.S.-China cyber commitments from President Xi's September 2015 State Visit. The meeting occurred following the conclusion of the third U.S.-China High-Level Joint Dialogue on Cybercrime and Related Issues, which State Councilor Guo co-chaired along with Attorney General Lynch and Secretary of Homeland Security Johnson on December 7.

Human Rights Day 2016 Statement
Today we celebrate International Human Rights Day, which marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights sixty-eight years ago. The declaration states that each and every one of us has the right to freedom of thought, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and freedom of peaceful assembly and association. We Americans know, from first-hand experience, that protecting these freedoms is difficult and never-ending work.

Remarks by Under Secretary Nathan Sheets at the China Finance 40 Forum
Thank you for that introduction. Let me also thank the China Finance 40 for hosting this event. I will speak today on two topics that are closely related: first, China’s economic rebalancing, which is a familiar theme in discussions of China’s role in the global economy; and second, rising debt levels in China’s corporate sector, a phenomenon that is increasingly a focus for China’s policymakers as well as for global markets.

Yesterday, before votes were tallied, I shot a video that some of you may have seen in which I said to the American people: Regardless of which side you were on in the election, regardless of whether your candidate won or lost, the sun would come up in the morning.
