EPA Funds Projects to Support Pesticide Risk Reduction in Agriculture
September 19, 2012. The US EPA is announcing the Regional Agricultural IPM Grants for six projects to support the adoption of IPM in agriculture to reduce pesticide risk. The grants total nearly $300,000. They will expand public-private stewardship and collaborative pesticide risk reduction efforts in agriculture. More.
Northeastern IPM Center Releases IPM Partnership Grants Program RFA
September 17, 2012. The Northeastern IPM Center has announced the availability of funding through the IPM Partnership Grants Program, which is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Up to $300,000 in total will be available for 2013 to fund projects that foster the development and adoption of IPM. Applications are due December 14, 2012. More.
California DPR Seeking Volunteers to Review Child Care Outreach Materials
September 14, 2012. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) would like to form a group of interested persons to advise the Child Care IPM Program on outreach materials for child care providers. IPM Workshop for Retail Nurseries and Garden Centers
September 7, 2012. The University of California is hosting an IPM training for retail nurseries and garden centers on October 30, 2012 in Santa Clara, CA. This hands-on workshop covers IPM, pest ID, and how to direct customers to less toxic pest management tools. Deadline for registration is October 22. More.
IR-4 Project Call for Proposals
September 5, 2012. The IR-4 Project has released a call for proposals for their 2013 biopesticides and organic support research program grants. Projects can be early stage, advanced stage, or demonstration projects. Typical funding for all grants totals $400,000. Proposals are due October 19, 2012. More.
Cornell Guide Gets to the Root of Tree and Shrub Problems
August 31, 2012. Branching Out, a newsletter started in 1994 by Cornell plant pathologist George Hudler, has been updated and compiled into a 300-page book, Branching Out: Features from the Past for the Future. The book includes plant care information on diseases, arthropods and cultural conditions like drought, herbicide injury and soil compaction. More.
NIFA Seeking National Program Leader
August 29 , 2012. The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Institute of Food Production and Sustainability is seeking a national program leader (cropping systems). Responsibilities include initiating program development and collaboration and evaluating the quality, outcomes and impacts of these programs. Position closes on September 14, 2012. More.

US EPA Mosquito Website Information Restructured
September 14, 2012. The US EPA reorganized the mosquitoes and pesticides (including DEET) information posted on their website. The new resource directory includes simple, do-it-yourself prevention methods such as removal of standing water sources and how to use insect repellants safely. These resources can be used to help people protect themselves from the disease risks, including West Nile virus, posed by mosquitoes. More.
Webcast on Applying for Green Ribbon Schools Program
September 14, 2012. The US Green Building Council is hosting a free webcast on understanding and applying for the US Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools program. The webcast will include an overview of the program, changes from last year, a review of the timeline and resources to help with a strong application. More.
New Website Hosts Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Info
September 13, 2012. A new website, StopBMSB.org, has been created to provide information about the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug and its effect on agriculture. The website received funding from USDA and includes collaborators such as the Northeastern IPM Center, Rutgers University and Penn State.

First International Symposium on Horticultural Insects Management

The Regional Center on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development for the Near East is hosting the 1st International Symposium on Horticultural Insects Management from November 19-22, 2012 in Amman, Jordan. NAPCA Tribal Pesticide Specialist Position Open
August 29, 2012. The National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA) has a position opening for a tribal pesticide specialist. This is a part-time position (20-30 hrs/week) for a Senior Environmental Employee (SEE), who must be 55 or older. Responsibilities include assisting EPA staff in implementing tribal pesticide program activities in Indian country throughout Region 5. More.
