Chronic Disease Prevention at DSHS provides information, education, resources,
and assistance
to the people of Texas to make healthy life choices, reduce
the human and economic impact of poor health, reduce the incidence of
premature death and disability, and promote healthy communities.
Activities
The DSHS Chronic Disease Prevention Branch:
-
collects, interprets and disseminates data relating
to behavioral risk factors and chronic conditions
-
provides health information and education related
to tobacco use prevention, nutrition, physical activity, diabetes,
and other chronic disease risk factors and diseases
-
provides technical assistance and consultation to
support development of environmental and policy changes related
to tobacco use, physical activity and nutrition within worksites,
restaurants, schools, communities and health care organizations
-
provides funds and technical assistance to support
system changes that will improve the delivery of clinical preventive
services such as adult immunizations, cancer screening tests, counseling
and follow-up.
