Welcome to the Centers for Technical Assistance
Our original technical asisstance center, the National Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Center (NCSTAC) was established in 1998 by Mental Health America. We are currently in the process of opening 3 new TA Centers on a variety of issues. Our purpose is to strengthen consumer organizations and provider agencies by providing technical assistance in the form of research, informational materials, and training. The MHA Centers for Technical Assistance (MHATAC's) promotes mental health systems transformation by working with diverse racial and ethnic communities to conduct comprehensive community assessments, develop community coalitions, advocate for improved mental health services and conduct public education activities.

The Center on Adherence and Self-Determination |
The Center on Adherence and Self-Determination
An exciting new research Center has been created to examine service engagement (a.k.a. treatment "adherence", "compliance") using a self-determination framework. The Center on Adherence and Self-Determination (CASD) is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and directed by Patrick Corrigan, Psy.D. of the Illinois Institute of Technology's College of Psychology. The Center is based at the Illinois Institute of Technology and involves investigators at Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Rutgers the State University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Investigators conduct research aimed at promoting choice and full engagement in services that help people with serious mental illnesses achieve their recovery goals. The Center leads the field in the conceptualization, development, and dissemination of innovative research methods, analytic approaches, and interventions aimed at promoting self-determination and service participation.
