West Coast Region's Strategic Plan

The WCR's strategic plan identifies our priorities for the next five years, from 2016 through 2020. The plan will be used by staff to guide internal decision-making and resource allocation. It includes goals, objectives, and strategies designed to support NOAA Fisheries’ core mandates:

  1. Ensuring the productivity and sustainability of fisheries and fishing communities through science-based decision-making and compliance with regulations; and
  2. Recovery and conservation of protected resources through the use of sound natural and social sciences.

The plan also supports the broader Department of Commerce goal to ensure communities and businesses have the necessary information, products, and services to prepare for and prosper in a changing environment; and NOAA’s vision of healthy ecosystems, communities, and economies that are resilient in the face of change.

In supporting these goals and mandates, and in carrying out our plan, we will use the best available science and strive for organizational excellence through service, responsiveness, fiscal integrity, strong partnerships, innovative solutions, and internal alignment.

In addition to our specific goals, objectives, and strategies, the plan describes the West Coast Region’s role in carrying out NOAA Fisheries’ mandates and how we are organized to carry out these duties.  It also describes many of our key partners and stakeholders because the majority of our work involves collaborations, both internally and externally.
