Keeping Soldiers Hydrated with New Smartphone App

Soldier Water Estimation Tool Carrying enough water during training and field missions is a challenge for Soldiers as well as their leaders and mission planners. Dehydration can decrease performance and increase the risk of serious heat illnesses. A new, user-friendly smartphone app developed by USARIEM researchers Dr. Nisha Charkoudian, Dr. Sam Cheuvront, Dr. Robert Kenefick and Ms. Laurie Blanchard could provide the amount of water required for the specified conditions in liters per hour for individuals and units.

TBI Data To Be Collected from 3,000 National Guard Members

Dr. Kristin HeatonTBI Data To Be Collected from 3,000 National Guard Members Deployed members of the National Guard share something in common with their active-duty brothers and sisters — the likelihood of suffering from traumatic brain injuries. Testing prior to deployment provides a baseline, but what's missing is a reference data set specific to the National Guard so that its members may be compared to their peers. Welcome

The Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP), United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), manages an extensive portfolio of research aimed at developing effective countermeasures against stressors to maximize health, performance and well-being throughout the Deployment Cycle. The broad program is organized into four program areas: Injury Prevention and Reduction, Psychological Health and Resilience, Physiological Health, and Environmental Health and Protection. Each area represents efforts to develop guidelines and criteria to predict, prevent and mitigate physical and psychological injury and contribute to the shared responsibility of enabling our Armed Forces and providing them with the best care possible.

The MOMRP conducts collaborative research with university and commercial laboratories and other federal agencies oriented toward solving critical problems facing the Army today and in the future. Service- and platform-specific issues are addressed through close coordination with Navy and Air Force counterparts to prevent duplication of effort. The MOMRP uses an independent, external scientific peer review process to ensure high quality and validity of its research, peer review of milestone accomplishments and to prepare these findings for publication in the open scientific literature.

The MOMRP is centered on cutting-edge scientific research and bringing science to the Soldier on the battlefield in a relevant, timely manner. The MOMRP depends on a phenomenal cadre of dedicated scientists and engineers who continuously and tirelessly work to protect the Nations most valuable asset the Warrior.

Science to Soldier is our focus
