Smart Travel Enrollment Program

The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to Americans who are traveling or living in a foreign country. Enrollment allows you to record information about your upcoming trip abroad that the Department of State can use to assist you in case of an emergency. You may update your contact information at any time, making it easy to keep your information current. Americans living abroad can also get routine information from the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

The data you provide is secured behind Department of State firewalls, accessed only by cleared personnel in Embassies, Consulates, and the department of State, and releasable only under the provisions of the Privacy Act.
