DOE Paducah

DOE’s responsibilities at the site have evolved over time from producing enriched uranium to environmental remediation. DOE will continue to manage the cleanup activities at the site until completion.

The Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office (PPPO) was established by the DOE Office of Environmental Management (EM) to provide leadership and focus to the specific cleanup challenges at the Portsmouth and Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plants. PPPO Manager Robert Edwards provides management and oversight that encompass environmental remediation, waste management, and facility decontamination and decommissioning. He also manages the Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion Project, which involves construction and operation of two facilities to convert 72,000 cylinders of DUF6 to a more stable form for beneficial reuse and/or disposal.

Paducah Site Contractors

DOE and its contractors at the site are responsible for the deactivation of the gaseous diffusion facility, environmental remediation, infrastructure support services, support to the DOE site office, and conversion of DUF6.
