Paul J. Jaeger
Executive Director, Navy Cryptologic Component 

Mr. Jaeger became a Senior Executive in September 2015 and is assigned to the staff of Commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/TENTH Fleet as Executive Director, Navy Cryptologic Component. He is the senior Navy Liaison to the National Security Agency (NSA) and serves as Director of the Navy Cryptologic Office. He entered civilian service with NSA in January, 2012 after a 34 year active duty career in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Captain.

A native of Wisconsin, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. After commissioning, he earned his wings as a Naval Flight Officer and completed a tour with Patrol Squadron Four as a Patrol Plane Tactical Coordinator and Mission Commander.

In 1988, while on the staff of Commander, Naval Security Group Command, he was selected for lateral transfer and redesignation as a Special Duty Officer – Cryptology (now Information Warfare). Additional tours as a junior officer included Naval Security Group Activity, Edzell, Scotland; Commander, Carrier Group Three aboard USS Abraham Lincoln; and NSA as a Director's Fellow.

As a Commander, he served as Officer-in-Charge, Cryptologic Services Group Japan, with additional duty as the U.S. Forces Japan Staff Cryptologist. He later assumed further duties as the Chief of Operations, Department of Defense Special Representative Japan. In 2002, after his selection for promotion to Captain, he was assigned to the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) Staff, as the Deputy Director, Intelligence Plans, Policy, and Programs.

In 2005, he assumed command of Naval Security Group Activity, Fort Meade. The command was subsequently re-aligned under Naval Network Warfare Command and renamed Navy Information Operations Command Maryland. In 2007, he reported again to the OPNAV Staff as Executive Assistant to the Director, Navy Information Operations (N39)/Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence for Cryptology (N2C). He arrived back at Fort Meade in 2009 and completed his active, uniformed service in 2011 as the Director, Navy Cryptologic Office, on the staff of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/TENTH Fleet.

As a NSA civilian, he led an office charged to support and oversee the training of a competent cryptologic work force and also served as Executive Director of the Cryptologic Training Council, the interagency governing body for the Cryptologic Training System — a confederation of the Military Departments, U.S. Coast Guard and NSA.

Mr. Jaeger holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
