CG Smith Tours Shanghai Children’s Medical Center

Nov. 22, Shanghai – Consul General Hanscom Smith and Vice Consul Bradford Milklavic visited Shanghai Children’s Medical Center (SCMC) and met with Jiang Zhongyi, president of SCMC, and Xu Lihua, director of Project HOPE’s Shanghai office. During the visit, Smith learned about SCMC’s development over the past 10 years, especially its cooperation with many children’s hospitals in the U.S. and Project HOPE. SCMC said it appreciated the support and help they have received from the U.S. government over the years. CG Smith mentioned that this was his second visit to SCMC – in 2014, he came with Ambassador Max Baucus to present a $950,000 grant from USAID.  Smith praised SCMC for the progress it has made and said it was a good example of U.S.-China cooperation.
