Collaborations with Colorado State University


As a central component to its Strategic Plan, CIRA is committed to further strengthening Faculty/Fellows/NOAA interactions throughout CSU. Our aim is to provide maximum visibility for the CI, communicate the objective and tangible benefits of conducting research under the NOAA/CSU Cooperative Agreement, and encourage utilization of the CI for all NOAA proposals that align with its research themes. Interactions between CIRA and the University occur along several fronts, including:

  • Strategic assignment of post doctoral researchers in areas that provide direct benefit to Faculty/Fellows. Examples of these current and future placements include: i) Armin Sorooshian - Cloud/Aerosol interactions, ii) David Baker - OCO, iii) To-be-identified Post-Doc - hydrometeorology.
  • Involve the CIRA Fellows in CIRA strategic planning, and conducting periodic meetings to solicit input and discuss upcoming opportunities.
  • Cross-pollination in the form of attending group meetings, exchanging scientific information, and strategic/proposal planning.
  • Identifying new ways to integrate multi-disciplinary partners throughout Departments of the University via coordination with University Department Heads.
  • Active involvement in CSU outreach-related activities to advertise CIRA capabilities to the broader CSU audience and its partners.

 

Other Collaborations at CIRA

In addition to the partnerships mentioned above, CIRA maintains fruitful partnerships with external partners to facilitate cutting-edge research and knowledge transfer to operations in several different fields. Currently, CIRA hosts three embedded programs:

  • The Regional And Mesoscale Meteorology Branch (RAMMB) team, part of the Cooperative Research Program of the Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) of the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) within NOAA,
  • The Air Quality Research team who collaborates with the National Park Service (NPS) to conduct research on visibility and air quality for the nation's national parks, and
  • The Center for Geosciences/Atmospheric Research (CG/AR), an embedded program that partners with the Department of Defense (DoD) to conduct hydrology and meteorology research relevant to the Army and other DoD partners.
