2017 ASLO Awards
Each year, ASLO honors a select few scientists for their exceptional work in advancing the fields of limnology and oceanography. The 2017 ASLO Awards will be presented at the Aquatic Sciences Meeting (ASM) in Honolulu, Hawaii 26 February to 03 March, 2017. Congratulations to awardees Philip Boyd, Walter Boynton, Shawn Devlin, Meghan Duffy, Bo Jørgensen, Caroline Solomon, Bob Sterner and Dag Hessen!

The November issue of the L&O Bulletin is now available at Wiley Online. ASLO members, log in at the ASLO website first! The issue includes articles about science via kayak, winter limnology, science communication, and the 2nd International Indian Ocean Expedition; a tribute to Sifford Pearre, Jr.; messages from President Linda Duguay, Executive Director Teresa Curto, and the ASLO Business Office; book reviews, news of the society, and several meeting highlights.

Congratulations to the 2016 class of ASLO Fellows! The ASLO Fellows program was initiated in 2015 to honor ASLO members who have advanced the aquatic sciences via their exceptional contributions to the benefit of the society and its publications, meetings, and other activities. The commitment and service of these individuals to ASLO have enabled our society to advance the sciences of limnology and oceanography.

Inaugural issue of L&O: Letters
The first articles in our new journal, Limnology and Oceanography: Letters, include an editorial by Editor-in-Chief Pat Soranno (Why we need a new journal for the aquatic sciences), and the inaugural research article by J. Saros, R. Northington, D. Anderson, and N. Anderson (A whole-lake experiment confirms a small centric diatom species as an indicator of changing lake thermal structure). Fully open access, L&O Letters publishes letters, essays, and articles on any aquatic systems scaling from molecules to global cycles.

2017 Aquatic Sciences Meeting
In 2017, ASLO will return to one of its most popular locations - Honolulu, Hawai'i. The meeting will address water issues and promote scientific exchange across the freshwater to marine continuum. It will embrace the Hawaiian cultural perspective linking land, water, and peoples. ASLO invites you to participate in this biennial meeting and to take part in the dialogue among limnologists and oceanographers from around the world. The session list is available and registration will open soon.

2016 Global Outreach Initiative Award Winners
The ASLO Global Outreach Initiative provides mini-grants to ASLO members to conduct outreach projects in their own communities. This year's awardees are: María Aranguren-Gassis (Spain); David Seekell and Keith Larson (Sweden); Domenico D'Alelio and Davide Di Cioccio (Italy); and Oguguah Ngozi Margaret, Ayorinde Folake and Wilfred-Ekprikpo Peace C. (Nigeria).
