Overview of ACS AuthorChoice
ACS AuthorChoice facilitates unrestricted Web access to the final published article, the Version of Record, for a one-time fixed payment. This program allows you to post copies of the final published article on your personal website and institutional repositories. View more pricing information.
- To ensure complete separation between scientific editorial decision-making and economic considerations, the ACS AuthorChoice option is extended by ACS Publications to Corresponding Authors after editorial acceptance of an article for publication.
- Upon receipt of payment to sponsor the ACS AuthorChoice option, the ACS will make the article freely available from the ACS website, and all re-use provisions of the relevant license selected by the Corresponding Author shall apply to that author, all co-authors, and users of ACS AuthorChoice content.
- A much wider range of open access publishing options is now available, including:
- Creative Commons licenses
- Provisions for immediate or 12-month embargoed open access
- Discounts for ACS members and authors at subscribing institutions
- ACS Certified Deposit
- With this new program, ACS manages the required deposit of the final published article to funder, institutional, or governmental repositories when requested by the author and if the repository accepts ACS deposits.
- ACS also maintains records, and will make those available to authors, to assist in their need to certify compliance.
ACS AuthorChoice content is easily identified as open access content
All articles with an ACS AuthorChoice logo published prior to April 1, 2013, are subject to the ACS AuthorChoice/ACS Editors’ Choice Terms and Conditions. All articles with an ACS AuthorChoice or ACS Editors’ Choice logo published after April 1, 2013, are subject to either subscription access (for any of the ACS AuthorChoice + 12 options during the first 12 months of publication), or immediate open access with one of three Terms and Conditions:

- ACS AuthorChoice/ACS Editors’ Choice via Creative Commons CC-BY
- ACS AuthorChoice/ACS Editors’ Choice via Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-ND
Articles published after April 1, 2013, are labeled on the PDF and the html with a link that takes the user to the appropriate Terms of Use for that article.
