Presentations available from the
Landfill Methane Outreach Program 2009 Annual Conference

EPA's Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) Annual Conference and Project Expo was held in Baltimore, MD in January. With a record turnout, LMOP hosted more than 520 attendees and 83 exhibitors. The conference sessions began with an opening address from Dina Kruger, EPA's Climate Change Division Director, during which she provided an overview of EPA's greenhouse gas initiatives. LMOP Team Leader Rachel Goldstein then highlighted the great work that LMOP's nearly 800 Partners have achieved in their contribution to the development of approximately 470 currently operating LFG energy projects. With major media stories in The New York Times, GQ, and the Wall Street Journal, and with national television ads by S.C. Johnson and LMOP Industry Partner Waste Management, more and more people are understanding the environmental and economic benefits of LFG energy projects. Presentations are available for download from EPA's LMOP Website.

Updated Draft Hazardous Waste Listings Released

EPA has updated its Draft "Hazardous Waste Listing" reference document. The document describes EPA's hazardous waste listing regulations under the authority of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Subtitle C1 and includes information that EPA has generated over the years to explain the listing regulations. The document serves to streamline and consolidate the information on listing regulations to help EPA staff, state staff, industrial facilities, and the public understand hazardous waste listing regulations.

Definition of Solid Waste Revised to Encourage Recycling

A final rule under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act streamlines regulation of hazardous secondary materials when they are recycled by reclamation. EPA's regulation maintains strong protection of human health and the environment by limiting the streamlined requirements to specific, legitimate recycling activities.

Cherry Hill Showing the Way on America Recycles Day

Nov. 15 2008 marks the 11th annual America Recycles Day, an opportunity for cities and citizens to re-commit to improving recycling rates and protecting the environment. Cherry Hill, NJ, stands out among communities that are "greening" themselves, and can be a model for others looking to do the same.

Rock 'n' Roll 'n' Recycle

Music fans can now protect the planet while grooving to their favorite bands this summer. More concert venues are rocking and rolling out recycling bins than ever to collect the cans, bottles, and other wastes that are discarded in large quantities at each show. By implementing a waste reduction program, music festivals and venues have found that they can reduce their carbon footprint while reducing event costs.
