Land-based Wind Energy Guidance

These Voluntary Guidelines serve as a framework for the Service and project proponents to guide coordination, risk assessment, and development of avoidance and mitigation measures.   

 

Eagle Conservation Plan Guidance

Explains the Service’s approach to issuing eagle "take" permits and provides guidance to applicants and biologists for conservation practices and adaptive management necessary to meet standards required for issuance of permits and compliance with the Eagle Act.

 

Indiana Bat: Section 7 and Section 10

We developed this guidance to help U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists assess the impacts of wind energy projects on Indiana bats. We are sharing this guidance with  interested parties as they may find the guidance helpful in understanding the underlying rationale for our impact analyses and for guiding project development to avoid and minimize impacts to Indiana bats.

 

Maps

Locations for proposed wind projects should be assessed for their potential impact on birds and bats before advanced project planning and making final decisions. Depending on the size of the facility and its location, a study may be necessary to characterize use of a site by birds and bats. Because some studies may take up to several years to complete, early involvement of resource agencies, including the Service, is imperative.
