Web Services

Public web services support the ECHO website and are available to web developers. The services allow developers to design custom applications utilizing a live feed of data from ECHO. EPA will provide a collection of "GET" or query-only web services, available through a simple URL HTTP link and providing output in XML, JSON, or JSONP formats. Documentation for using each of the services will be posted on this page.

Note: To download a large volume of data, please use the ECHO Data Downloads. To allow simple facility searching from your website, see the ECHO widget.

Detailed Facility Report

The ECHO DFR REST Services (PDF) (95 pp, 436 K, About PDF) document describes the REST web services used to provide data for EPA's Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) Detailed Facility Report (DFR).

This is collection of “GET” or query-only web services that are available through a simple URL HTTP link and provide output in either XML, JSON, or JSONP formats. These services are available through an EPA application server that is exposed to the Internet. The base URL link for all DFR services is https://ofmpub.epa.gov/echo/dfr_rest_services. The required input parameters are described in the document. (Note: Default Internet Explorer settings do not support the display of JSON results directly in the browser. Other browsers, such as Firefox and Google Chrome, do support display.)

All Data Facility Search

The ECHO All Data Search Results Services (PDF) (44 pp, 1.1 M, About PDF) document describes the REST services used to provide data for EPA's Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) All Data Facility Search. The All Data Facility Search is the most general facility search on ECHO and searches across all available environmental program records based on user selections.

Drinking Water System Search

The Drinking Water REST Services Documentation provides data on public drinking water systems regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The information available for each of the systems reflect data drawn from the federal version of the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS/Fed).

Effluent Charts

ECHO REST Services Documentation provides interactive descriptions and generation of the REST services used to provide data for ECHO's Effluent Charts. The Effluent Charts are dynamic charts and tables of permitted effluent limits, releases, and violations over time for Clean Water Act (CWA) wastewater discharge permits issued under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
