The Okefenokee Wildlife League is the Friends group for the refuge. By joining, you are helping the refuge to further the mission of wildlife conservation.

Okefenokee Wildlife League

In March of 1990, Okefenokee Wildlife League, Inc. (OWL), in cooperation with the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, was established as a non-profit organization. All donations and funds generated from the sale of books, photographs and other educational items are used to sponsor League projects. Funds are also used to purchase additional refuge equipment and fund educational programs.

Memberships — Memberships categories include Individual, Family, Life, and Corporate.
Bookstore/Refuge Nature Gift Shop — The Bookstore provides visitors with educational materials related to refuge natural and cultural resources and management, and offers the chance to purchase souvenirs of the refuge.

What We Do

National Wilderness Areas

Okefenokee has the great distinction of not only being a part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, but also the National Wilderness Preservation System. This designation is given to federal lands that are affected primarily by nature and where people are only visitors. Managed using minimum tools, Wilderness Areas are places where visitors can experience unconfined and solitude recreation.
