Rivalry thriller? In second-half blowout, loaded Gonzaga has other ideas
Fifth-ranked Gonzaga thumped Saint Mary's to extend its winning streak to 17 games and efficiently showed why it is a major threat to go unbeaten.

Anas Mahmoud and Louisville made Duke's youngsters look very young in a home victory over the reeling Blue Devils.
His shot at the NBA draft was lost to Marfan syndrome, but he's about to land in the EuroLeague
The best high school players in the country will play at the Hoophall Classic this weekend -- and there are several emerging storylines to watch.
Last year's Final Four team at Syracuse was just 9-9 in the ACC and looked likely to miss the NCAA tournament altogether. This looks like a similar season. Can the Orange do it again?
A month ago Florida State was a No. 8 seed, just another ACC team filling a line on the bracket. Now, the Seminoles stand atop the best conference in college basketball and are perched as a No. 2 seed.
Texas Tech's Chris Beard saw something in walk-on Thomas Brandsma. As Beard's coaching profile has risen, Brandsma followed. Together they've been to five schools, finally landing in Lubbock.
The Tar Heels are looking to regain the focus they had during the Maui Invitational after squeezing out a win over Wake Forest on Wednesday.
First rule: Don't let Duke out of your sight. Something will happen. The Blue Devils aren't the only story. There's UCLA's return, Villanova's repeat hope and Gonzaga's perfect run. Let's reset.
According to the Giant Killers model, some of the Big East's highly ranked teams -- Butler and Creighton among them -- could be susceptible to early NCAA tournament exits.
The Bilastrator does not like the word "parity." It's for amateurs. He's more focused on the strengths and weaknesses of the best 68, including what Villanova does well and what plagues Indiana.
College basketball is filled with high-level point guards, and four players stand out above the rest. We asked 15 NBA executives to rank them. Who came out on top?
Harry Froling will join Marquette and coach Steve Wojciechowski, and will be eligible to play the first semester of the 2017-18 season.
College football is done. You're ready to go headfirst into hoops. Where to start? UCLA's Lonzo Ball, for one. And Baylor's rise, and all the 3-pointers. Oh, and Duke. Always Duke.
Hamidou Diallo will enroll early at Kentucky, but he won't play until next season. He counts toward the Wildcats' 2017 class, making them a virtual lock to stay atop the rankings.
Tenth-ranked West Virginia and its turnover-centric Press Virginia defense knocked off top-ranked Baylor just one day into the Bears' stay at No. 1.
Baylor's and Creighton's stellar starts turned heads. Syracuse and Georgetown have fallen flat. But nothing is more surprising -- or disappointing -- than Grayson Allen's situation at Duke.
Kris Jenkins showed that he can be more than a "smoove" shooter in Villanova's rout of Xavier, inspiring the No. 3 Wildcats with his all-around play.
The top four recruiting classes in 2017 seem settled, but where is Kansas? Or Oregon? Or Florida State? And how can they break into the top 10?
Before the season, few thought much of Baylor. Well, look now, the Bears stand at the top. Remember when Indiana was No. 1? Look as hard as you want, you won't find the Hoosiers anywhere now.
The Bulldogs stay unbeaten! No. 5 Gonzaga rocks No. 21 St. Mary's to deliver its most impressive win yet. pic.twitter.com/da5fwYRTp3
Been watching ESPN no.1 @RealDeandreAy (Arizona) for years. When he is active, alert & aggressive for an ENTIRE game like he was tonight, he truly impacts the game. He scored 21 points & grabbed 10 rebounds. No.4 Mo Bamba was one point away from a double-double along with 5 blocks & altered many shots. He is a game changer defensively. Brandon Randolph (Arizona) was outstanding & Cam Reddish continues to show why he is a top 5 player in the class of 2018. The Hoophall classic is loaded with elite talent and nationally ranked teams.
Not sure I've ever seen a player as good as Jock Landale commit three worse fouls to take himself out of a game. Saint Mary's looked on the verge of pushing Gonzaga to the wire early in the second half, when Landale -- a legit POY candidate -- returned from a foul-ridden, six minute first half and got his game going around the rim. Instead the Gaels got run out of the gym. (Not unrelated: Gonzaga is really good.)
Top uncommitted prospect Mohamed Bamba is down to Michigan, Texas, Kentucky and Duke. Decided not to move forward with Harvard.
Best I've seen Arizona signee Brandon Randolph play in a long time. Putting it on the floor a little bit, jumper falling from different levels -- mid-range pull-ups, spot-up 3s. Has been aggressive in the second half.
The best unit on either side of ball in the Missouri Valley this season may turn out to be the Illinois State defense. Meanwhile Wichita State is likely the better overall team. A good one in Normal between two 5-0 MVC teams, on ESPN2.
Really impressive first quarter for top-five junior Cameron Reddish -- running the point at 6-foot-7, buried a few jumpers, finding guys in transition.
Kentucky's Malik Monk rises up for a big-time dunk in the second half against Auburn. The No. 6 Wildcats easily put away the Tigers, 92-72.
A day full of narrow but nonetheless impressive conference escapes rolls on with UCLA, which didn't play its best basketball in a supremely hyped-up Huntsman Center and still got out with a one-point win over Utah. Which would have been an unfathomable thing to write about the Bruins this time last year. But here we are.

Defending without fouling is important. @UCLAMBB has 3 fouls to give. Shortens their exposure on the defensive end. @Runnin_Utes is good
Heavyweight tilt coming up on ESPN. No. 1 prospect DeAndre Ayton vs No. 4 prospect Mohamed Bamba.
Shaquille O'Neal here at Hoophall Classic for his son, five-star ESPN 60 forward Shareef O'Neal. Long frontcourt player, leaner than his father -- grabbed six rebounds in the first half.
Ish Wainright threw down a huge putback dunk in No. 1 Baylor's 77-68 win over No. 25 Kansas State.
ACC official tells us the league reviewed Louisville's Donovan Mitchell's contact to Duke's Grayson Allen's face when the two dove for a loose ball and determined the slap was inadvertent.

It's been easy to focus on how insane West Virginia's press and turnover-creation have been this year, and rightfully so, but a less-sung reason the Mountaineers have looked so scary is that they've eliminated the turnovers they committed so frequently themselves a season ago. An energetic and improved-looking Texas got Bob Huggins' team to cough it up 15 times in the first 26 minutes Saturday -- before the Mountaineers cleaned it up, went the final 14 minutes without a TO, and got out of Austin with a hard-earned win.
