    It’s Not Too Late To Get A Flu Shot

    SPRINGFIELD, IL – Influenza activity is increasing nationwide and in Illinois. Many counties throughout the state are seeing more influenza-like-illnesses (100ºF or higher fever plus cough and/or sore throat), an increase in flu-related intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, and more people testing positive for the flu.

    "Flu season typically peaks between December and February and runs until May, so it is not too late to get a flu shot," said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D.

    State Announces Free Tax Preparation for Low Income Families

    SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois Department of Human Services Secretary James Dimas today announced free income tax preparation and electronic filing is available for low income workers and families. The services are provided free of charge at locations across the state to families with incomes up to $55,000 and individuals with annual incomes up to $30,000.

    Governor Rauner Recognizes Illinois’ Progress In Bringing High Speed Internet to Schools, Students

    CHICAGO—Governor Bruce Rauner announced Illinois has made significant progress in bringing high-speed Internet to more schools and students statewide through the Illinois Classroom Connectivity Initiative this past year.

    The EducationSuperHighway’s 2016 “State of the States” annual report on K-12 broadband connectivity showed 83 percent of Illinois school districts now meet the minimum connectivity goal of 100 kbps per student.

    SPRINGFIELD – Governor Bruce Rauner met with members of Illinois Workforce Innovation Board Apprenticeship Committee today to discuss the importance of bringing opportunity to every neighborhood in Illinois through apprenticeships. The committee’s efforts are focused on providing the same training and education services to all students across Illinois as part of a comprehensive cradle-to-career education.
