Visitor Center
Open seven days a week from 8am to 4pm except on Thanksgiving, New Year's, and Christmas.

Refuge staff and volunteers give free tours and talks during the fall and winter months. Visitor Center displays feature birds, butterflies, and other wildlife found at Santa Ana and its two companion refuges, the Lower Rio Grande Valley and Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuges.  This is also where you can pick up maps of the refuge trails. 

Ask the staff about binoculars and books. To enhance your visit, the refuge gladly lends binoculars and field guides. Pick up maps, bird lists, and trail guides here.

Refuge Trails: 
Seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, you can enjoy Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge's many trails. Enjoy wildlife-related activities, including wildlife watching, hiking, and photography.  

Currently the auto-tour loop is closed to vehicles and bicycles until further notice.  No pets are allowed on the refuge trails and auto-tour road.

Accessibility:
• Restrooms are open to the public and are wheelchair accessible.
• Wheelchairs and an electric scooter are available from visitor center staff.
• The Chachalaca Trail and tour loop are both ADA compliant. Accommodations are possible for wheelchair users on the tram (inquire at the Visitor Center).
