The company is committed to reducing energy intensity from its facilities by 20 percent by 2020 and has reduced it 10% between 2010 and 2013. GM has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence Award for superior energy management and has 63 facilities meeting a voluntary Energy Star® Challenge for Industry – reducing energy intensity by 10% within five years – this is more than any other company worldwide. In addition, GM has committed to utilizing 125 MW of renewable energy globally and has been recognized as a Solar Champion by the U.S. Solar Energy Industry Association for its impact in promoting a strong solar industry in the U.S. GM also is a leader in the industrial sector for its utilization of landfill gas.
