Registration for TAD attendees closes June 13

The Department of the Navy Information Technology Conference has been approved for June 24-25, 2014, and will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Md. No conference fee will be assessed, but registration is required. Registration will be closing June 13.

Due to travel restrictions in place to minimize overall conference costs to the DON, registration for attendees in a TAD status is limited to 50 people. On-site registration at the Baltimore Convention Center will be available for local attendees only. While the conference and DON attendance at the conference have been approved, attendees must obtain approval from their individual chain of command.

Rental cars are not authorized for attendees traveling by air, and participants are expected to use the lowest cost option in attending this event.

Bus transportation will be available to attendees traveling from the Pentagon on June 24 and 25, free of charge to riders. The bus will leave from the Pentagon at 6:45 a.m. and leave from the convention center at 5:00 p.m., at the latest, on both days. Mr. Terry Halvorsen began serving as the Acting, Department of Defense (DoD), Chief Information Officer (CIO) effective May 21, 2014. He serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Information Management/Information Technology and Information Assurance as well as non-intelligence Space systems, critical satellite communications, navigation, and timing programs, spectrum and telecommunications. He provides strategy, leadership, and guidance to create a unified information management and technology vision for the Department and to ensure the delivery of information technology based capabilities required to support the broad set of Department missions.

Prior to his selection to be the Acting DoD CIO, Mr. Halvorsen served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Department of the Navy (DON). As the DON CIO, Mr. Halvorsen headed the Office of the DON CIO and was the DON’s senior official and advisor on matters related to Information Management (IM), Information Technology (IT)/cyberspace (including national security systems) and Information Resources Management (IRM).
