A key challenge facing the Department of Navy (DON) is recruiting and retaining sufficient qualified cyberspace/information technology (IT) personnel. This resource guide provides links to a wealth of information intended to foster improved communication, professional development, and career mobility within the cyberspace/IT community. CONNECTING:

DON CIO EMAIL ALERT: Email alerts inform the DON Cyberspace/IT community of important, timely items of interest, issues and technology related to IT affecting the DON. CHIPS: This quarterly DON IT Magazine is dedicated to “Sharing Information – Technology – Experience” across the IT community. You may subscribe online and view issues at: www.doncio.navy.mil/chips/.

MARINE CORPS IT MANAGEMENT COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE (ITM COI): This website provides information on job opportunities, professional development and training. It includes a community calendar, pages for the community leader and community manager, and a document and reference library. NAVAL POSTGRADUATE (NPS) DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS: NPS has developed several distributed learning programs to provide more accessibility and flexibility for DON military and civilian personnel to increase their knowledge of information operations or issues of evolving computer-based military systems. FEDERAL VIRTUAL TRAINING ENVIRONMENT (FEDVTE): FedVTE is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the departments of State and Defense. SKILLSOFT: Skillsoft hosts SkillPort, a 24x7 gateway to resources for skills improvement, professional development, performance support, and more. Use SkillPort to find answers to questions, develop professional skills, and take targeted learning. Log in to explore the resources available, e.g., 3,000 courses, including all cybersecurity courses, plus PMP, ITIL, Cisco, Microsoft, etc. Navy personnel can access the SkillPort portal at: https://navyiacertprep.skillport.com. CREDENTIALING OPPORTUNITIES ONLINE (COOL): The COOL website provides background on commercial certification vouchers and funded exams. Access information and download voucher applications at: https://www.cool.navy.mil.

MARINENET: MarineNet provides access to libraries and online courses, and allows you to complete required and annual training without stepping into a classroom. Visit MarineNet at: https://www.marinenet.usmc.mil/.

THE NATIONAL DEFENSE UNIVERSITY INFORMATION RESOURCES MANAGEMENT COLLEGE (NDU ICOLLEGE): The iCollege prepares military and civilian leaders to optimize information technology management and secure information dominance within cyberspace.
