In this issue we introduce CHIPS new logo courtesy of Janet Carter of the SSC Charleston Technology Training Center. Janet is also designing the new Web site look for CHIPS, which we will be unveiling soon. Keep checking our Web site at www.doncio.navy.mil/chips for our new design.
In this issue, we also introduce the new CHIPS Assistant Editor, Nancy Reasor. Nancy joined the staff in late December and told me after a few weeks on the job that she was "hooked" and that she loved CHIPS. Obviously, we get along great! Nancy has 20 years of experience in information technology (IT) and is a valuable as well as delightful asset to the CHIPS team.
CHIPS, in conjunction with the Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer (DON CIO) is publishing another Special NMCI Issue. Scheduled to be mailed to CHIPS subscribers in early May, the Special NMCI Issue will include articles by Joseph Cipriano, the Program Executive Officer for Information Technology (PEO-IT), the PEO-IT Public Affairs Officer, EDS, Commander Task Force, NMCI, and NAVAIR, the first command to transition to NMCI. The Special issue will also include an insert, which will list all the services available from the NMCI contract. The Special NMCI issue will also be available at Connecting Technology (CT) Spring 2001, May 15-17, at the Virginia Beach Pavilion Convention Center. CT, the Navy's premier IT event, incorporates briefings by distinguished speakers from the DON and the United States Coast Guard, presentations and technical briefs by industry leaders, training sessions, government and industry exhibits and much more. CT is a wonderful way to network with other IT professionals in a relaxed but instructive forum.
In this issue, Captain Steve Briganti, USN, Deputy, Commander Task Force, NMCI explains the intricacies and components of NMCI Governance. Mr. Walter Christman, Director for Strategic Initiatives, U.S. Joint Forces and SPAWAR, discusses the Partnership for Peace (PfP) effort. PfP is a NATO and DoD inspired global program, melding peacekeeping, humanitarian efforts and military coalition operations, to help reduce the burden on U.S. forces while promoting regional security cooperation among nations. It is a fascinating program.
