That’s really sweet armansyahardanis. My mother is 83 also. I’ll have to stop by her home on my break, since I’ll be working. She doesn’t like to bath anymore, so I might mention your idea. On the following Saturday evening I’ll be giving environmental related hands-on science demos at my church. They have game night, and I’m not so fond of games. I have a lot od “boxed” experiments I’ve done with children over several years. All home-made. For the last several years I’ve done them through the American Chemical Society’s Kids & Chemistry program.

Planning garden rennovations and layouts, introducing my child to native plants, planting new trees, attending clean-up events, attending earth day celebration events, making a pact to visit as many state parks as possible, then move on the the federals, between my daughter and I. Also, putting together a research group to find more reasons for sustainable living communities, continuing my education with an MSEM, obtaining a Forestry/Conservation Career Diploma, renewing memberships to different organization that respect and serve to protect the environment and remaining active in them, and continuing research to put together multiple educational materials on environmental topics.

I’m going to FINALLY order some reusable grocery bags (made in USA of course!). This is better than taking back the bags for recycling, but I just haven’t gotten around to finding some, and I don’t want imported ones.
All the supermarket grocery stores, including the Co-op, the Public Library, the hardware store, etc. all have their own logo printed on recyclable shopping bags. If you haven’t found one, then you must not be looking!
I am going to sit on an auto analyze perspective because every time I hear the word “Earth” that brings my idea to a green plantation, and what I shall do to better improve myself in future by continuing this same great nature ideological conservancy.

For me, I will engage myself in the attainment of a sustainable environment particularly from knowing to applying stormwater solutions to be able to execute stormwater best management practices. This issue may seem to be a small thing as we are not used to seeing it everyday but it being hidden from our eyes yet existent, it could contribute to earth’s permanent damage if not given a concern.
I have made a committment to myself to walk more and drive less, lowering my own carbon footprint. I have made a committment to myself to practice more of what I preach, to buy green, to recycle … and to teach more people that going green doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice quality.
I’ve been taking my 3 kids and husband out to clean up garbage that litters our community. My children have been deeply affected by this new activity…all of us wrote about it
We’re working to enlarge our compost heap from single wire bins into a two-compartment (mostly) wooden structure, so that we can turn from the first compartment into the second a little easier. Our plan incorporates a lot of found material — stuff we already had on hand, just taking up space, so the new bins will solve more than one problem. Turning will be easier because there will be a removable barrier between the bins; no more moving from one wire cage to the other a shovelful at a time, just heave it over a couple of feet and no need to be “tidy” about it. It will have solid side walls for better moisture retention and we’re moving it to a sunnier spot, so I hope it will get hotter and “cook” better and faster. I may make two wire chimneys to increase aeration; if so, those will be made from one of the old bins.
Wish me luck in my quest to feed my hungry little patch of Mother Earth.
Solid sides are good to retain moisture – but make sure you get enough air into the pile to keep it going properly, otherwise you get a smelly mess that takes forever to decompose… so plan on using wire chimneys.
aerobic composting is the goal… anaerobic decomposition is what you get in a cesspool. the more the material is mixed together, the faster it will breakdown under proper conditions of heat & moisture. When the earthworms start appearing, the pile is ready for the garden.
every day should be “Earth Day” because we are too close to the edge to “rest on our laurels”. The operative word needs to be “sustainable”. Sustainable growth in industry… population… agriculture… The old model of “bigger is better” or more economical is totally wrong for a sustainable system.
Think of it this way… when cells start to grow without stopping – you have a cancer that will utlimately kill the organism. The short term benefit to the cells is way outweighed by the end result of death to all the cells in the organism.
Forget about the notion of “saving the earth”…. this planet will persist long after we are gone. We are really working to save our own butts… and whatever other organisms manage to hang on with us.
First, I am going to continue to “zero” my carbon footprint by buying carbon offsets from verifiable activities such as in support of wind power.
Secondly, I wil continue to calmly and rationally “talk back” to people, particularly people in power, who continue to deny modern science, particularly the science of global warming.
I am going to spread the word of the importance of earth day. I am going to let the public know that if we all band together we can make a difference to this earth and the environment. There are still a lot of people out there that are ignorant and don’t have any concept what its about and how they can help.
We are going to get our business involved in planting a tree for every new subscriber, or possibly to offset carbon emissions for each new subscriber of our web site. We started out recycling(refurbishing) computers just because it is the right thing to do..now we are going to try to get more people involved even if they can not give to our cause.
