SKCM Karl G. Keyes
Master Chief Karl Keyes, a native of Chisago City, Minnesota, enlisted in
the Coast Guard in March, 1991. After
completing basic training at Cape May, NJ, he was assigned to Coast Guard
Station Coos Bay OR. Upon graduation
of Storekeeper “A” school at Petaluma California in 1992, he was assigned to
Support Center Kodiak, AK. In 1996,
SK2 Keyes transferred to Group/Air Station Port Angeles WA.
SK1 Keyes then transferred to CGC MIDGETT in 2000, followed by a tour
as the Supply Chief on board the CGC HEALY in 2003.
In 2006 Senior Chief Keyes was assigned to the Seventeenth Coast
Guard District Office in Juneau AK and was advanced to Master Chief in 2009.
In 2009 Master Chief Keyes was reassigned to Integrated Support
Command Seattle and assumed the duties as Command Master Chief leading Coast
Guard modernization efforts establishing the first Coast Guard Base under
DCMS. In 2015 continuing his
leadership role Master Chief Keyes was assigned as the Command Master Chief
for Sector Columbia River.
Master Chief Keyes personal awards include one Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, two Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals with "0" device, five Commandant Letter of Commendation with "0" device, eight Coast Guard Good Conduct awards, four Coast Guard “E” ribbons, and the Sea Service Ribbon with one bronze star. He is a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy, Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, and was president of class 183 of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy. He has an Associate of Arts Degree from Century College in Business Management.
