About the Commission
The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) of Tuolumne County was established by state law in 1963 to discourage urban sprawl and encourage the orderly formation and development of local government agencies. There is a LAFCO in each of the 58 counties of California.
LAFCO is responsible for coordinating logical changes in local government boundaries including annexations and detachments of territory, incorporations of cities, formations, consolidations, mergers, and dissolutions of special districts, as well as reviewing ways to reorganize, simplify, and streamline government structure.
Enterprise System Catalog
The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) utilizes the County of Tuolumne's computer system. In accordance with Section 6270.5 of the California Government Code, enacted through the adoption of Senate Bill 272, the software applications used by the County and LAFCO are listed on the County Enterprise System Catalog, which can be accessed at the following link under
Transparency on the County's website.
