What is the State Technical Committee?
The State Technical Committee (STC) provides advice on a wide variety of policy issues to NRCS. Although State Technical Committees have no implementation or enforcement authority, USDA gives strong consideration to the Committee's recommendations. Each State Technical Committee recommends criteria and guidelines for agricultural producers regarding new conservation practices and systems not already described in field office technical guides. See detailed STC responsibilities here.
Who are the members of the Wisconsin State Technical Committee?
The NRCS State Conservationist determines the membership on the State Technical Committee. Individuals or groups wanting to participate on a State Technical Committee may submit to the NRCS State Conservationist for that State a request that explains their interest and outlines their credentials, which they believe are relevant to becoming a member of the State Technical Committee. Decisions of the NRCS State Conservationist concerning membership on the committee are final and are not subject to appeal.
When do they meet?
Meetings are generally scheduled bi-monthly, on the third Thursday of the month. Start time is usually 9:30 am. Meetings are held at the USDA-NRCS Wisconsin State Office at 8030 Excelsior Drive, Madison, Wis. 53717, 2nd floor conference room
