Rhode Island Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG)
Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) is a voluntary program intended to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies while leveraging Federal investment in environmental enhancement and protection, in conjunction with agricultural production. Under CIG, Environmental Quality Incentives Program funds are used to award competitive grants to non-Federal governmental or non-governmental organizations, Tribes, or individuals.
CIG enables NRCS to work with other public and private entities to accelerate technology transfer and adoption of promising technologies and approaches to address some of the Nation's most pressing natural resource concerns. CIG will benefit agricultural producers by providing more options for environmental enhancement and compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations. NRCS administers CIG.
The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service of Rhode Island (USDA NRCS) is accepting applications for Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies. Up to $135,000 is anticipated to be awarded through a competitive grants process statewide for Rhode island.
Funds will be awarded through a statewide competitive grants process. The proposals will be accepted for single or multi-year projects, not to exceed three years, submitted by entities from Rhode Island.
Ten CIG categories are available in Rhode Island: Soil Health; Aquatic Resources; Economics and Sociology; Organic Operation Technologies; Wildlife; Water Quantity; Nutrient Management and Water Quality; Energy Conservation; Urban Farming; and Co-Management for Food Safety. Applications are requested from eligible Indian Tribes, Rhode Island and local units of government, non-government organizations or individuals for competitive consideration of grant awards for projects between one and three years in duration. Applications will only be considered for projects in Rhode Island.
Applications must be received in the NRCS Office in Warwick, RI by 3:00 PM on April 7, 2017. Selected applicants should plan their projects based on a projected start date of September 1, 2017.
