Protecting the Pacific Northwest
Welcome to Health Safety and Work Life Practice Sector Columbia River. The
Clinic uses a new schedule structure for planning appointments.
The schedule will incorporate acute, same day appointments, in lieu
of the 0730-0830 Sick-Call. There is
no longer Sick-Call. It is our
most sincere hope that this restructuring will alleviate long wait periods
that our ill or injured members are currently enduring.
Please understand this in no way
reduces the access to care for those members in need of medical attention.
Should you find yourself in need of medical attention please call the clinic
front desk at (503) 861-6240 and make an appointment.
If you have an acute illness or
injury you will be assigned an appointment time the same day.
If your needs are not acute you will be scheduled as appropriate.
Supervisors, please do not simply
send your members to the clinic for ‘sick-call’, but rather call and give
your medical staff the opportunity to effectively triage the needs of the
member. As a supervisor you are also
authorized to send your member home for 24 hours sick without a duty status
chit. If their symptoms persist 24 hours later, this is the point where the
member will need to be seen by medical to continue their SIQ status. As always if there is a
medical emergency please call 911.
For after-hours assistance (Active duty personnel only) call the Duty HS at
(503) 338-8751.
*The Duty HS is for after-hours
related healthcare and emergencies only*
If unable to contact the Duty HS call the Sector Columbia River Command
Center at (503) 861-6211.

Have Health Questions? Call the TRICARE
Nurse Advice Line (NAL)
Sometimes it's hard to know when to seek medical help for urgent
health problems. Having access to a trusted medical professional at a
moment's notice is invaluable. The new TRICARE Nurse Advice Line (NAL) does just that. Starting
April 25, 2014, all TRICARE beneficiaries in the continental United States,
Alaska and Hawaii can get health advice by calling the NAL, toll-free and
24/7. The NAL number is 1-800-TRICARE (874-2273).
The NAL is a team of registered nurses who answer urgent healthcare
questions. They give beneficiaries professional medical advice to help
decide whether self-care is the best option, or they should see a healthcare
provider. They will recommend if it's ok to wait for care, or if
beneficiaries should seek urgent or emergency care. There is always a live
person on the line to answer health questions.
The NAL has pediatric nurses to answer children's health questions. If
follow-up to the child's care is needed or requested, the NAL will call back
to check on them a few hours later. The NAL can also help beneficiaries find
the closest medical care if they need it.
TRICARE ER vs. Urgent Care Visits If you are considering going to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care, please call the duty HS at (503) 338-8751 prior to doing so. If your injury is a serious emergency, then go straight to the ER and then contact the duty HS. ER visits are covered under TRICARE for Emergencies only. If you are considering going to an Urgent Care clinic for care please be aware that you run the risk of having a medical bill. These visits are not covered under TRICARE without prior authorization either through your PCM or the NAL (please see previous topic). But I just went?! This is still a correctable issue. While this is not the preferred method, on case by case basis you can receive a retroactive referral by visiting your PCM immediately after your visit to an urgent care. The retroactive referral does not guarantee that TRICARE will approve and pay for any medical charges.
The Coast Guard Support Program (previously known as the Employee Assistance Program) provides confidential professional counseling, education, and referral services to you and your family members. Help is available for issues such as marital and family problems, drug abuse, depression and anxiety, work/life balance, work-related concerns and career issues. Confidential help is available 24 hours a day. (CGSUPRT) - 855-247-8778 (855-CGSUPRT) www.CGSUPRT.com
