Welcome to the District 13 Motorcycle Safety Website. This site is focused primarily on Motorcycle Safety. It has no brand bias of any kind. Indeed, by 'motorcycle' we mean any motorized two or three wheeled vehicle. It is our intention to provide Coast Guard and DoD policy and information regarding motorcycle safety that affects the Coast Guard member that chooses to ride. We hope to significantly reduce your odds of having an accident while riding your motorcycle.

In addition to safety concerns, the site will attempt to provide information on motorcycling events and riding tips to enhance your riding experience. If you have ideas for articles or other items to be included here, please contact the District Motorcycle Safety Officer. Also, please register in the "Rider Registration" area of this site.

Also, review the documents in the "Policy" section to better acquaint yourself with District and CG-wide policy.

CG Member Requirements

Per COMDINST M5100.5:

  • Ch. 4, Section B.4, all military riders shall be required to attend one motorcycle safety course prior to riding their motorcycle on or off base. Training is required regardless of whether the member has a motorcycle endorsement on their driver's license.
  • Ch. 4, Section B.5 requires periodic Refresher Training every five years or following the purchase or changing the size and type of motorcycle.

Area Navy bases offer courses at no cost to military members. The top link under resources takes you to the Navy website that shows all currently offered courses and will walk you through the self enrollment process for whichever class works best for your schedule.

Motorcycle Safety Training shall be logged into Direct Access.
