Who We Are
ANEP works with the 28 individual programs in the National Estuary Program (NEP), which was established in 1987 by Congress to restore and protect estuaries of significant importance. The NEP brings together citizens, scientists, businesses, and government to solve environmental problems and promote healthy, vibrant communities. The program stakeholders work together to develop science-based action plans that enhance the estuary as a vital environmental and economic resource benefiting local communities and the entire nation.

The Fall NEP meeting is Just Around the Corner
The 2016 National Estuary Program fall tech transfer field session and meeting, sponsored by ANEP and Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program, begins Friday, December 9. Have you registered yet? The meeting will be held in New Orleans, immediately preceding the Restore America's Estuaries (RAE) 8th National Summit on Coastal & Estuarine Restoration and 25th Biennial Meeting of The Coastal Society. This year, National Estuaries Week was celebrated September 17-24. Since 1988, National Estuaries Week has been held to celebrated the many ways we benefit, from healthy, thriving coastal ecosystems. Throughout the country, local and national organizations, watershed groups, National Estuarine Research Reserves, and National Estuary Programs organized special events, like beach clean-ups, hikes, canoe and kayak trips, workshops and more to recognize the special role estuaries play in our everyday lives.
