The Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) consolidates three former programs – the Wetlands Reserve Program, Grassland Reserve Program and Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program.

The Agricultural Conservation Easement Program provides financial and technical assistance to help conserve agricultural lands and wetlands and their related benefits. Under the Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) component, assistance is provided to Indian tribes, state and local governments and non-governmental organizations to protect working agricultural lands and limit non-agricultural uses of the land. Under the Wetlands Reserve Easements (WRE) component, NRCS helps to restore, protect and enhance enrolled wetlands.

USDA Announces $350 Million Available to Help States, Private Partners Protect and Restore Grasslands, Wetlands, and Working Lands

NRCS is making $350 million in financial and technical assistance available to help landowners protect and restore key farmlands, grasslands and wetlands across the nation. The funding is provided through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program, which was created in the 2014 Farm Bill to protect critical wetlands and encourage landowners to keep lands in farming and ranching. The funds are made available to the ACEP – Wetlands Reserve Easement (WRE) component and to the ACEP – Agriculture Land Easement (ALE) component. New York received $3.2 million to fund applications in fiscal year 2016. $1.7 million is available to fund ACEP-ALE projects and $1.5 million is to fund ACEP-WRE projects.
