Land Use

Rolling pasture and crop land in Puerto Rico.Cropland, pastureland, and small areas of forestland comprise the major land uses (non-urban) in the Caribbean Area and the land uses receiving the majority of the conservation treatment that address our soil, water, air, plant, and animal resources.

Major land use natural resource concerns include:

  • erosion by wind and water,
  • maintaining and enhancing soil quality,
  • water quality and quantity,
  • plant condition and health, and
  • wildlife habitat.
