Bryan Hannegan
Associate Lab Director, Energy Systems Integration
Dr. Bryan Hannegan leads the lab’s global initiative to optimize links among electricity, fuel, thermal, water, and communication networks to enable a more sustainable society. Prior to joining NREL, Dr. Hannegan held several research leadership positions in fossil fuel-based, renewable energy, and environmental science and technology at the Electric Power Research Institute, the nonprofit research and development arm of the electric power industry.
Art Anderson
Laboratory Program Manager, Grid Integration
Art Anderson manages the lab’s programmatic contributions to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Grid Modernization Initiative. His prior experience includes 9 years at Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), where he led the design and construction of PG&E’s Smart Meter Communications Laboratory, supporting one of the world’s largest smart meter deployment initiatives.
Larry Brown
Center Director And Facility Manager, Energy Systems Integration Facility
Dr. Larry Brown oversees research operations at the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF). Dr. Brown cultivates and supports strategic research initiatives to achieve energy systems integration mission objectives and ensures ESIF capabilities are leveraged to the greatest extent possible.
Steve Hammond
Center Director, Computational Science
Steve Hammond develops and leads laboratory-wide efforts in high-performance computing and energy-efficient data centers. He initiates and oversees innovative research programs in computational science, mathematics, and scientific computing in support of NREL's DOE-based mission. This includes utilizing modeling and simulation to advance energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and leading NREL's efforts in energy-efficient data centers.
Erfan Ibrahim
Center Director, Cyber-physical Systems Security And Resilience
Dr. Erfan Ibrahim works with the public and private sector to identify security requirements; evaluate cybersecurity standards; test cybersecurity controls; and determine residual risk in smart networks in the electric, water, oil, and gas sectors. He also serves on the cybersecurity and resilience team within the Grid Modernization Lab Consortium for DOE.
Ben Kroposki
Center Director, Power Systems Engineering
Dr. Ben Kroposki leads strategic research in the design, planning, and operations of electrical power systems. His expertise is in the design, testing, and integration of renewable and distributed power systems, and he has authored more than 100 publications in these areas.
Martha Symko-Davies
Director Of Partnerships, Energy Systems Integration
Dr. Martha Symko-Davies has developed more than 50 partnerships with key stakeholders to address the challenges of systems integration at all scales, from residential to utility.
