NABCI and its partners work to advance national and international priorities in bird conservation. The majority of NABCI’s work is accomplished through its subcommittees, which focus on key bird conservation needs. The US NABCI Committee currently recognizes seven formal subcommittees:
- Communications – Working to engage and inform a variety of audiences – from policymakers and industry to the bird conservation community and the general public – on major bird conservation issues and the successes taking place to address these issues.
- Executive Council – Provides leadership to the US NABCI Committee by offering recommendations for potential future directions and priorities for the full Committee’s consideration.
- Human Dimensions – Integrating the science and tools of human dimensions into the business of bird conservation.
- International – Coordinating with Canada and Mexico on North American bird conservation issues, as well as to solidify our plan to support hemispheric conservation efforts and partnerships.
- Monitoring – Providing technical expertise and recommendations for improving bird monitoring such that effective and efficient integrated monitoring programs are in place, institutionally supported, and informing conservation throughout bird’s full annual life cycle.
- Private and Working Lands – Helping state and federal land management agencies, as well as non-government conservation organizations, better interact with private landowners to facilitate bird conservation on these lands.
- State of the Birds – Oversees the production of State of the Birds report and to ensure that NABCI partners are informed and engaged in production, dissemination, and implementation of recommendations.
NABCI also engages in additional partner-driven initiatives, such as:
- Coordinated Messaging and Advocacy – Aligning bird conservation advocacy efforts and messaging, and ultimately develop a coordinated communication strategy that can be used by the broader bird community
- Unified Science Team – Providing the science support necessary for successful implementation of coordinated and full life cycle bird conservation actions across all taxa and geographic scales by maximizing creative synergy and efficiency through increased communication and collaboration on projects of shared priority.
