Harzard Analysis and Critical Control Points Training Conducted in Rhode Island with the Northeast Aquatic Nuisance Species Panel
Northeast Region, November 29, 2011
Print Friendly Version

Regional Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator, Mike Goehle conducted a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) training in Providence, RI. This training helps natural resource agencies reduce the risk of moving non-target or invasive species during the course of their work by using a scientific framework first developed for the food industry. This HACCP workshop kicked off the fall meeting of the Northeast Aquatic Nuisance Species Panel (NEANS). Workshop attendees represented the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Connecticut Sea Grant, Narragansett Bay Research Reserve, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Quebec Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs. It appears that HACCP will be pursued by several of the participants in their existing work as a way of minimizing the risk of moving non-target species.
