A member of the San Bernardino NWR staff was a guest speaker for Cochise College’s Brown Bag Lunch program. The college regularly brings in guest speakers to give presentations to staff and students on a wide range of topics from archeological findings in the region, to wildlife, as was the case in the refuge presentation. The presentation was arranged through the Office of Continuing Education at the college. The history of the refuges and the reasons why they were established were discussed, as well as the various programs the refuge carries out throughout the year, such as inventory and monitoring, public outreach, habitat restoration, and environmental education. The last topic brought a request from one of the college’s science instructors to have his class volunteer at the refuge in some capacity to gain practical knowledge of natural resource conservation work.
