The U.S. Department of Energy National Training Center (NTC) won a prestigious eLearning award at the recent eLearning Guild DevLearn 2014 Conference and Expo, the leading training and learning event in North America focused on learning technologies. The eLearning DemoFest, a collective eLearning showcase where conference participants present their latest projects, is a highlight of the conference. The DemoFest competition, held October 30th, featured 81 project demonstrations from around the world, including six NTC courses—Workplace Violence Awareness Briefing, Roles and Responsibilities for Key HRP Officials, Personnel Security Processing, Special Access Programs, Engagement Simulation Systems Demo, and Unusual Behavior. Of the many excellent submissions, the NTC’s Workplace Violence Awareness Briefing entry won the award for Best Immersive/Simulation.

Feds feed Families

Representatives of the Office of Enterprise Assessments delivered more than 1,600 pounds of non-perishable food to the Manna Food Center on September 2, 2014 as part of the 2014 Feds Feed Families campaign. Manna feeds about 3,300 needy families in Montgomery County. Manna also provides food to 48 Montgomery County soup kitchens, food pantries, group homes, and emergency shelters.

The training workshop was based on real-world threats and issues and included a variety of guest lecturers and hands-on practical exercises. Participants utilized both live fire and engagement simulation system weaponry. The exercises were led by NTC instructors at the NTC’s Live Fire Range and Integrated Safety and Security Training and Evaluation Complex (ISSTEC).

Department of Energy Cites URS -Washington Division for Worker Safety Violations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (PNOV) to URS -Washington Division (URS-WD) based on an investigation of an October 2010 incident at the DOE Idaho Site.  The PNOV cites URS-WD with two violations of the Department’s worker safety and health regulations associated with a hoisting incident that occurred when a telescopic hydraulic gantry system (THGS) tipped while lifting a 7,800 pound shield plug at the Sodium Bearing Waste Treatment Project (SBWTP).  The Department has proposed a $150,000 civil penalty.
