Expert Evaluations of Management Performance in DOE Health, Safety and Security

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Enterprise Assessments (EA) provides expert evaluations of management performance in safety, security and other areas by seasoned experts who are independent of line management and will ensure that training reflects the most current Departmental policy on safety and security issues. EA serves as an important check-and-balance that meets the Department’s responsibilities as a self-regulating entity and advises the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on all matters related to oversight, enforcement, safety and health training, and outreach activities across the complex.

Enforcement.  Conducts enforcement activities for Federal regulatory requirements pertaining to worker safety and health, nuclear safety, and classified information security under authorities granted to the Secretary of Energy by the Atomic Energy Act.

Assessments. Provides DOE line management, Congress, and other stakeholders with an independent evaluation of the effectiveness of DOE policy and line management performance in safety and security, and other critical areas as directed by the Secretary of Energy.

Outreach.  Establishes forums for communication and collaboration related to health, safety and security with DOE line management, federal agencies, national and local labor unions, industry, academia and other stakeholders to identify and address mutual areas of interest and concern of DOE-wide impact to the workforce.

Training.  Develops and delivers standardized health, safety, safeguards, security, and protective force training for DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration Federal and contractor employees.  The DOE National Training Center promotes a technically capable, security- and safety-oriented DOE workforce by developing courses based on current methods, orders, and directives.
