Long Description
The AFAMS vision is to be the lead Air Force organization for integrating Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) capabilities to support the warfighter in full-spectrum operations. The AFAMS mission is to ensure appropriate representation of air, space, and cyberspace in modeling and simulation (M&S), integrate and ensure interoperability of Air Force models and simulations, coordinate Air Force M&S support for Service, Joint, Inter-Agency and Coalition events and develop and maintain appropriate M&S skills and knowledge for Air Force personnel.

Organization
AFAMS is organized into three divisions, each managing several key programs.

The Operations Application Division is divided into five functional areas: Distributed Mission Operations (DMO), Air Operations Center (AOC) Training Support, Event Support, Security and Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC)/Range Integration. DMO connects geographically separated organizations using LVC simulations to meet Air Force, Joint, Interagency and Coalition training objectives. AOC Training Support assists the Warfighting Headquarters and Numbered Air Forces (NAF) meet AOC training requirements through the use of M&S tools. Event Support includes operating and integrating models and simulations in support of planning and execution of Air Force, Joint, Interagency and Coalition events, exercises and mission rehearsals to train warfighters and battle staffs in the full spectrum of operations. Security addresses issues arising with networked simulations that transfer/receive data across varying levels of classification including multi-level security, multi-national information sharing, cross domain solutions, distributed training network guards, etc. Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC)/Range Integration promotes integrated LVC solutions across the Air Force including the live test and training ranges.

The LVC Programs Division is responsible for the Air Model Development focus area, addressing modeling and simulation requirements in support to training, mission rehearsal and experiment events. Tactical and operational requirements of the warfighter are translated into effective training capabilities or enablers. Activities include the oversight to the Air, Space and Cyberspace Constructive Environment (ASCCE), Information Assurance (IA) to ensure the Certification and Accreditation of ASCCE components and IA advisor to other Air Force agencies, support to training transformation initiatives, cyberspace and multiple level security initiatives. Projects include an evaluation of constructive modeling and simulation capabilities for training within the AF, identification of duplication of constructive capabilities and promoting opportunities to leverage existing efforts. A focus on the integration of constructive training capabilities into Live Virtual and Constructive environments to provide more robust training is addressed with associated interoperability issues.

The Foundations Division is divided into two branches: Workforce Development/Outreach and Standards. The Workforce Development/Outreach Branch is responsible for growing a group of senior leaders that will understand, trust and is willing to exploit what M&S has to offer. The Standards Branch ensures the Air Force has interoperable standards, protocols, architectures and databases for our simulations supporting training, acquisition, experimentation and analysis.

Benefit/Value
The Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) is a field operating agency of the Warfighter Systems Integration and Deployment Directorate, Warfighting Integration and Chief Information Officer, Secretary of the Air Force. The Agency is located in Orlando's Central Florida Research Park, with DoD, Joint, service, contractor, and educational organizations focused on modeling and simulation (M&S). Proximity to these other agencies offers the Air Force the maximum leverage and advantage of the developing programs and technologies enhancing the Air Force ability to provide ready forces.
